I look her body up and down as I circle her.
Mine?
I smile a devious, deviant, Iâm gonna make you sorry you ever started playing this game with me smile.
And then I take her hand.
I lead her to the elevator.
We go up to my apartment.
I tie her wrists together with rope.
Raise her arms above her head.
And chain her to the ceiling.
Itâs my turn.
âWhy are you so nervous?â I ask Jordan. Weâre sitting in Smithâs bar. The table is elaborately set for a nice dinner, our glasses are full of expensive alcohol, and our cocks are happy. Why does he look like shit is about to hit the fan? âShe had a good time,â I say, sipping my brandy.
âYeah,â Jordan says. His eyes are glued to the elevator doors, just waiting for her to come downstairs. âBut it was sneaky, ya know?â
âWhat was sneaky about it?â
He shoots me a look that says, Come on.
âShe gave in, Jordan. We didnât make her do anything.â
âRight.â He sighs. âBut youâre what, just pretending we didnât have that conversation this morning? You know, the one where you said, âIâm gonna fuck with her head so bad, sheâll spin like The Exorcist?ââ
âIt was a joke.â I laugh. âAll we did was make her feel good tonight. She loved every fucking minute of it. Even when I choked her with my cock. She couldnât get enough.â
âThatâs because she was drunk on your dick at the time, Bric. But that feeling is gonna wear off and sheâs gonna run the entire night through her head, and thenââ
âThen sheâs gonna realize we know what the fuck weâre doing. Thatâs all.â
âNo,â he says. âSheâs gonna realize youâre just playing with her emotions. Like you do with every fucking woman youâve ever been with.â
âSo?â
âSo then sheâs gonna up her game, Bric. And this is gonna turn into a mind-fuck shit-fest. I like her,â he says. âMaybe more than like her, OK? I donât want her thinking Iâm like you.â
âYou are like me,â I say, getting pissed off. Why the fuck is he sharing her with me if he likes her so much?
But I donât ask that question.
Because I like her too. Just not in the same way.
âSee,â Jordan says.
âSee what?â I ask
âThat fucking evil grin youâve got on your face. I know you well enough, Bricman. Well enough to see the Machiavellian wheels turning inside your head. Do not play with her emotions.â
âWhy?â I ask, my temper rising. âIs she some kind of fragile flower?â
But then I realize this intrigues me.
âStop it,â Jordan says. âSheâs not a puzzle, OK?â
âThen why are we even playing?â
He huffs out some air. Runs his fingers through his still-wet hair. âBecause sheâs notâ¦â He trails off.
âSheâs not what?â I ask. What the fuck is wrong with him tonight?
âSheâs not my type.â
âOK,â I say, not really understanding.
âI mean Iâm not really her type.â
âHmm,â I say. âDo you love her?â
âNo,â he says. âDefinitely not. But I like her. I could see myself playing with her for a long time. And if you fuck it up, that wonât happen. You, of all people, understand how fucking hard it is to get a girl you can trust in this game. One who just gets you, ya know? We get each other, Bric. I realize itâs only been a few weeks, but we know each other. I just like her. And we have an understanding. I get to boss her around and be a dick, but she knows Iâm not a dick, right? She knows Iâll show up the next day and treat her nice and give her a gift. She knows Iâm just playing. Weâre playing.â
âItâs a game. Same as this,â I say.
âDude, come on,â he says, almost fully exasperated now. âYou are a sick motherfucker, OK? You know this, right?â
âThen why am I even here?â
âBecause weâre good together, ya know. Not great. Yet,â he adds. âNot what you had with Smith and Quin, obviously. But we understand each other. We work well as a team. She liked that up there.â
âSo whatâs the problem?â
âThe problem is youâre in a weird place right now and Iâm afraid youâre gonna take it out on Nadia. Donât do that, OK?â He stares at me. âJust beâ¦â
âJust be your back-up?â I ask, huffing out a laugh.
He shrugs. But thatâs it. Thatâs what he wants. Donât overpower him. Donât take her away from him. Donât make her rethink her strategy. Just help him keep her.
It takes me a minute to decide if Iâm angry or not.
I decide Iâm not. I donât give two fucks about this Nadia girl. And my goal really was to break her. So I shrug. âFine,â I say. âYou want a wingman. Fine. Iâll help you out, Jordan. But when I need a favor, Iâll expect the same in return.â
