Preslie Summers is an ICU nurse at the main hospital in Toronto. Six months ago she broke it off with her boyfriend. She thought he took the break well, but she was very wrong. When Preslie starts to fear for her life, who will help her heal?
Miles and Preslie have experienced the unthinkable. Now, they'll try to heal together, because two hearts are better than one.
Excerpt:
She sat on the edge of the couch for a few more moments, just taking in the surroundings. There was an acoustic guitar resting against the front window, in the living room. She knew only the basics of guitars, but had always wanted to learn how to play. Looking down, she let out a soft laugh. She still couldn’t believe she was wearing her most risqué nightgown. All that she had underneath was little bikini panties. She shook her head and stood up. She quietly walked to the bathroom. When she walked back into the living room, she checked to see if Miles was still sleeping. Then as she walked towards the guitar, she enjoyed the feel of the soft carpet between her toes. This house was inviting. What did he say, he was renting it? It would be a keeper in her book. As she sat down on the floor, she pulled the nightgown up around her. She rested her body against the window sill, and lifted the guitar onto her lap. Her knees were together and sitting to the side in front of her. She slowly started to play a few chords.
Miles had a tough time falling asleep on the couch, but when he did, he was out. Preslie never moved the whole night, so he sleep perfectly. In the past, Angie was known to toss and turn, and keep him up all night. Also, he was a light sleeper, which went with the type of job he had. You always felt on, and ready to jump into action at any moment. He never felt Preslie get up, but as he opened his eyes, he noticed she was gone. He started to come out of the sleeping fog, and realized he heard a guitar. He looked around, but didn’t see Preslie. Then he looked behind him, and there she was. It was like an angel sitting by the window. There was soft lighting shining a beautiful beam around her gorgeous body. She was holding one of his guitars, and sitting there pretending to play. He had to smile. This was just too beautiful. The guitar she was holding was one of his prized possessions. It had been signed by Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. He had signed it personally. God he could watch her like this all day. He looked down and laughed to himself. Hopefully his other body parts would cooperate soon, and just relax. He couldn’t stand up, when everything else was standing up, too. Shaking his head, he rubbed his eyes, and thought about cold water.
He stood and walked towards her, “Good morning, Princess.”
She smiled as she looked up at him, “Sorry if I woke you. I couldn’t resist strumming a few chords. I really have no idea how to play, but have always wanted to learn.”
Miles loved her honesty, “Well, just so happens I know this guy who plays the guitar.”
Laughing, “You do, huh?” She rested her hands on the guitar, “Was it okay that I grabbed this one?”
He sat down on the floor beside her, “Of course. Do you like Led Zeppelin?”
She looked shocked, “Who doesn’t? They’re the best. Why?”
He pointed down below her fingers, “Jimmy Page signed this for me. He has played on a guitar like this.”
She squeaked, “Oh my God.” Then she handed the guitar to him carefully, “I’m so sorry.”
He let out a laugh, “Why? You didn’t do anything wrong. If you were banging it around, that may be an issue.” He handed the guitar back to her, and moved her hair away from her face. He leaned in, with his head next to hers, he showed her a few notes.
She slowly moved her hands up to his, feeling each movement. She rested her head against his, and sighed.
Quietly he asked, “Should we have breakfast? Maybe wear clothes like normal people?” He continued to strum the chords, but moved his body closer to hers.
She nuzzled into the crease of his neck, and rested her head on his shoulder. She lightly laughed, “Do normal people really wear clothes? In the house I mean?”
He could feel her smile on his neck, and had to smile too. “Hmmm…Maybe not.” He stopped playing and moved the guitar away. He pulled her onto his lap, “Would you like to spend the day with me today?” He looked up into her eyes, “Or do you have some reality TV show to watch?”
She playfully punched him, “No.” With an innocent face, “I don’t watch reality TV.” You could see she wanted to laugh, but she was holding back.
He looked at her, and started laughing, “You’re so lying.” He shook his head, “Breakfast, then what?”
Smiling, she looked down, “Well, can we swing by my place and grab some nightgowns, or maybe clothes?” She leaned up and kissed him on his lips. Then she quickly stood up, and reached for his hand.
He was a bit surprised when she leaned in to kiss him. As much as they talked in the past weeks, and especially last night. He had to get used to physical contact with another woman. After 10 years with one woman, your mind can struggle with change. Of course, Angie was making it easy to move on. He still couldn’t believe he found Julian with her last night. The guys were going to freak. He looked up and grabbed her hand, and pulled himself up. He swatted her behind and walked to the kitchen.

Genre: Rock Star Romance
Release Date: November 16, 2015
Blurb
Touring as an opening act for a huge rock band and landing a record contract means you’ve hit the big time, right? Sadly, neither of those things gave Rusty Crawford, lead guitarist of the band Black Addiction, worldwide fame and fortune. Which was a shame because he had the lifestyle down to a fine art—without the clichéd stint in rehab. Even being back in the Bronx, paying his dues didn’t rattle the charismatic axe man, ladies loved him and men wanted to be him. Fate would just have to catch up. Seemed like fate had more than just a platinum album planned for his future. Alison Williams had the perfect life. Or at least she did until her world came crashing down around her, in the most epic way. With her future no longer a certainty she finds herself out of her comfort zone and into unchartered territory—a place where Rusty Crawford likes to spend most of his time. Will the charming and ridiculously hot rock god help her find her feet, or send her further down the rabbit hole? One thing was for sure; both of them were in for the ride of their lives.

“Hello, ladies.” His voice purred, sending vibrations through my body.
It was him. My beautiful mystery man. The one who I’d seen plenty but never spoken to. He was standing in front of me, smiling. In hindsight, I shouldn’t have been so surprised. There weren’t many bars in our little neighborhood where you didn’t need a Hep C shot before you entered. This particular establishment promised an impressive beer menu without the risk of a communicable disease, so it would stand to reason he would know about it too. “Hi.” Was all I was able to manage, convinced he was probably talking to someone else. Perhaps he meant the Amazonian redhead who was sitting to my left, openly staring—that would make a hell of a lot of more sense. They could probably shoot joint commercials for teeth whitener and make adorable, if not freakishly tall, children together. “I couldn’t help but notice your friend stole your drink. Ordinarily I’d overlook such thievery, but I’d hate for there to be a brawl in my favorite bar. So in the interest of keeping the peace, I’d like to replace it for you.” His voice smooth, as was his delivery. I had to remember to breathe. “She wasn’t going to drink it, but you can totally buy her another drink,” Renee answered before I’d gotten the chance. Her smile widened as she turned to face me and mouthed the words “he’s hot.” She needn’t have bothered; his hotness was not something that needed to be confirmed. “That’s okay, I’m good.” Thankfully words came out of my mouth even if they sounded in no way intelligent. “Well, glad to hear you’re good. Nice to meet you, my name is Rusty.” He smiled as he moved in closer, his hand signaling the bartender. “What were you drinking?” In what I can only explain as temporary insanity—probably from the shock of having the beautiful man talking to me—I blurted out, “I have a boyfriend.” I officially wanted to die. While I did have a boyfriend, and hopefully in a few hours I would be moving into his upscale apartment, there was no reason to announce it so dramatically. Almost as if to prove that I hadn’t secretly fantasized about him while in the shower every day this week—which I had. Sweat prickled at my brow. “Is that some code for you’re not thirsty?” Rusty’s lips curved in amusement. While the words weren’t sexy, the humor in his voice was a definite turn on, a hot button straight to my libido as he stood there grinning at me. “No, I-I just mean I can’t accept . . .” What was the word again? “A drink from you.” Yes, that’s what I wanted to say. “Or . . . or anyone else. N-not just you.” My mouth tried to regain some composure. It really wasn’t doing a great job. “Well, would you look at the time? I have a thing, wouldn’t want to be late.” Renee tapped her naked wrist—her watch missing in action, as was her tact. “Call me, Ali.” She gave me a hug and whispered, “If you don’t screw this guy, you’re dead to me.” And just like that, she evaporated from the room. Awesome. “Your friend always bail on you like that, Ali?” Rusty’s voice curled seductively around my name as he smiled, moving to the barstool Renee had vacated.
“It’s Alison.” Ali was just too personal, like him kissing me on the mouth. I totally would not have been okay with that. Mostly.

T Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.
T's approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience. With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world. While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have traveled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley, the wonder dog. An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident and who didn't lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. T set herself the challenge to write something that was interesting, compelling and yet easy enough to read that was still enjoyable. Pulling from her own past "colorful" experiences and the amazing personalities she has surrounded herself with, she had no shortage of inspiration. With a strong slant on erotic fiction, her core characters are empowered women who don't have to sacrifice their femininity. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn't let it go. T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colorful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey - she is well and truly enjoying the ride! Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

Watching as the ball rolled to the destination I’d predicted, my opponent cursed.
“Shit!” After sinking the eight ball into the corner pocket, I replaced my stick in the holder and walked over to him and held out my hand. I hadn’t gotten his name and hadn’t cared to. He was either new to town or just passing through, not that either mattered to me. He’d taken in my womanly shape and let his ego—and maybe the booze-- get to him. After insulting me, I’d accepted his challenge as some of the regulars looked on, giggling. Some may have classified me as a ‘shark’ but that wasn’t really my problem. He’d seen me as an easy win, and I proved him wrong. I could smell the stink that lingered on him. Permeating the air around me, even the aroma of peanuts and alcohol couldn’t hide his stench. Of course my senses were keen and came in handy now and then. He was a shifter and I guessed a canine of some kind. Tired of waiting, I demanded my money. “Deal’s a deal. Hand it over.” He scoffed and swaggered in drunkenness as he leaned in closer. “You’s a snake.” Leaning back, trying to avoid his nasty breath fanning my face, I spit out. “No, not a snake.” I heard some snickers from the bar, but ignored them. “But I may go rabid on your ass if you don’t hand over my money.” That seemed to get his attention. But just as quick he turned from me and stumbled toward a corner table. I stayed several steps behind as I observed those sitting there. They too were new to town or passing through. I didn’t recognize any of them and I knew everyone in Woodland Creek—at least everyone who mattered. As he took his seat, completely ignoring my presence, my eyes immediately found a pair of green-blue eyes sitting on the other side of the table. I was momentarily drawn into them and blinked, breaking the spell. There was something about him, besides the fact that he was rugged and big. I wondered how tall he was, knowing his height had to be significant. My senses had been off lately so I couldn’t get the read on him that I wanted to. His hair was long and dark and he had it pulled back loosely. His face was covered in a beard that was in desperate need of a trim. A leather coat covered his shoulders as I took in their width. His mouth curled into a smile before he turned back to the woman hanging on his side. Rolling my eyes I turned back to my competitor. Placing my hands on the table, I leaned in and demanded my money once again. “This is the last time I’m going to say it. You lost fair and square.” He snarled at me and the rest of the table grew silent. The ambiance changed and I stood up fully, taking a step back. My eyes met the green-blue ones once again as they shifted to gold. He was a shifter, too. Hell, probably they all were and I knew in that moment that most likely they weren’t just passing through. “Zeke, what d’ya owe the lady?” “She hustled me, I don’t owe her anything.” The same girl from before turned her attention to Zeke as she mumbled, “She ain’t no lady!” She watched me, waiting for a reaction. Scouring my body, she taunted me. “In fact, I bet she works for an hourly wage on the corner.” I had a temper and before I knew it, I was nose to nose with her, leaning across the table spitting out, “You can find out how much of a lady I’m not. Just say one more word.” Green-blue eyes—my name for him—stood and everyone paid attention. He was taller than I imagined and his hair was longer, too. He walked around the table and stood in front of me. Leering down at me, his eyes flashed gold again. When I didn’t flinch, his expression became curious, examining me closely. If he didn’t know what I was, he was a good actor. I was growing uncomfortable, when he suggested, “If I were you, I’d let it go. Zeke here has a bad temper and I’d hate to see him lose that temper on a sweet thing like you.” Ugh. I was utterly disgusted. “I’m no sweet thing. Maybe you should warn Zeke about my temper.” “What’s your name?” He took another step closer as I tilted my neck up to see him. If he thought he could intimidate me, he was wrong… Maybe. “Mine’s Rollo.” He stuck his hand between us and smiled. Groaning, I leaned around him so my eyes could meet Zeke’s. “Keep the money. Maybe use it to get groomed and bathed.” Zeke lurched up, but Rollo, with a smile on his face, put his hand up and Zeke sat right back down, making it evident that Rollo was their leader. Grinning at me he said, “You’ve got balls.” “If you mean bigger than his,” nodding toward Zeke, I confirmed, “Bet your ass I do.” It was a lost cause. Zeke could keep his forty bucks and get bent. I had more important things to deal with. That got Rollo to smile. A chill ran up my spine and I knew I had to go. Turning, I stalked toward the door, grabbing my own leather jacket off my stool at the bar as I walked by. I walked out of Vider’s into the cold night and inhaled deeply, but another scent caught my attention. Turning, Rollo was walking out the door and headed right for me. Marching toward my store, the next one down, I picked up my pace. I didn’t have time for a random hookup, not tonight. “Hey, you didn’t tell me your name.” Shouting over my shoulder, I replied, “I know I didn’t.”

Bianca requires aftercare as much as she needs the sting of the pain. I clean her wounds, and apply a liberal amount of Neosporin ointment and let the wounds breathe. I then cover her up with the thin blanket and sit on the bed beside her. “Slave.” Her eyes flicker open. “Here you go.” I unscrew the water bottle and hold it to her lips. She automatically reaches out so she can take the bottle, but I lightly smack her hand away. “I’ll take care of you.” Bianca smiles, then puts her lips to the bottle as I tip it so she can drink.
“Thank you, Master,” she dreamily says before placing her head on the pillow and falling into sleep. Walking away from the bed and to the opposite side of the playroom, I take my phone out of my pocket and call Matthew. “Hey,” he says when he answers. “Hey, I’m supposed to do an inventory check today but Bianca is starting to fall. We’ve just had a mini scene, but she’s out of it. Can you go in and start it, and I’ll be there in a few hours. I need to make sure she’s okay.” “She alright?” “Not great, but I’m hoping this time I can get to her before her mind fucks her over.” “Dude, whatever you need.” “Thanks, can you go in and start inventory?” “Yeah, I’m taking Ella to see Debra her OBGYN, check the baby and make sure everything’s alright, then we can head in and start on it.” “Thanks, we’ll be there before the club opens, but I just can’t get there for a couple of hours.”
“Yeah, man, don’t worry yourself. I’ve got it covered, look after your girl.”

What I do care about is sugar-filled food, bright lights, late nights… and danger. The type that won’t come in the form of Nonna’s new cantankerous British parrot, Gio. (Please see the damage done to Mom’s new curtains.) Unfortunately, when the danger comes, it comes in the form of something Holly Woods has never seen. The town is rocked to its core, and once again, I’m in danger. Only this time, it isn’t because of my clients—this time, I’m in danger because of who I am… Because of my heritage. And despite the HWPD’s best efforts, the bodies keep on piling up. Drake’s determined to protect me. I’m determined that I can do it myself. Danger. Mystery. Darkness. Malice. It’ll be a miracle if any of us make it out of this with guns unfired, cupcakes still frosted, and hearts intact… AMAZON US *** AMAZON UK *** iBooks *** KOBO
It’s better for my sanity if I get this conversation with Nonna over and done with. Oh my fuck. I have to meet the parrot, too. Holy fuckballs. What if the colorful rat sides with her? Oh, who am I kidding? Of course it’s gonna side with Nonna. Shit. Clearly, I can be swayed by the desperation of my future sister-in-law. I’ve really gotta get a handle on that crap. This should be Devin having this conversation, not me. That thought hits right as I pull up behind Mom’s car on the drive. I take a deep breath, apprehension coiling in my lower stomach, and get out of my car. This feeling always hits whenever I get to my parents’ place, but today, it’s particularly strong. I know that Nonna will play the innocent card and make everything a lot harder. I walk across the front yard, and a loud squawk rings in my ears. My heart stops for a brief second, and I bite my tongue. That thing is loud. How are Mom and Dad coping with that? I knock on the front door twice before I push it open. “Ye cruel wench! Ye vile wench! Cazzo! Cazzo!” Nice to meet you, too, Gio. “Hello,” I call hesitantly, closing the door behind me. “Aye! Ye bloody wench!” “Oh, shut up, you little shit!” Mom yells. I walk into the front room in time to see her cover the offending bird’s cage with a bedsheet. “Wench! Wench!” Gio squawks from beneath the black sheet. Mom smacks the cage. “I’ll wench your beak real soon!” Oy vey. Things have sure gotten violent in the Bond family home. Nonna shuffles into the front room and, upon seeing Gio covered, gasps. “Kellie, you-a let-a him go-a!” Mom snorts. “Believe me, Liliana. If I could imprison the little shit, I would! My curtains are ruined!” I glance at the window. There’s a giant rip in one of the drapes. The ones she bought two weeks ago. Nonna gasps and rushes across the room, her cane nothing more than a steadying tool. “Gio!” she exhales, whipping the sheet off. “You-a okay?” The concern on her face is comical. Oh, Nonna. “Vile wench! Vile wench!” Gio shrills, violently flapping his bright-green wings. “Kellie, ye vile wench!” I squint. Doesn’t seem like Gio’s conversational skills are up to much unless he’s going to hop on the Black Pearl. “Hello?” I try again, stepping fully into the front room. Nonna is leaning forward, cooing at the parrot, and ignores me. Mom turns, her nostrils flaring. She’s mad. “Nonna, do you know you can hear that thing halfway down the street?” I inquire. “He is-a no thing,” Nonna murmurs. “He is-a Gio!” Yeah, whatever. Gio’s wings flap again, and Nonna stands. Two beady, black eyes focus on me, and it’s surprisingly uncomfortable. A high-pitched noise that sounds awfully like a whistle emits from the cage, and I blink harshly. “Did he just—” Gio interrupts me with a loud, unmistakable wolf whistle. Holy shit. The parrot just wolf-whistled at me.

"I suppose I should thank you," Keelin stuttered. She tried to regain her composure as she lifted her chin at him.
"Of all the…how do I end up with the woman that is stubborn as all get-out?" Flynn said to himself as he started the motor and whipped towards shore. Keelin pulled the towel that he had handed around her and tried to get warm. "You know, most women would have thrown themselves on me in gratitude. You know, promising anything I wanted? Offers of undying devotion? Baked goods? No. You can barely thank me." Flynn glared at her. Keelin stared regally at him from across the boat. "I am sure I would have been fine. I just needed to cut across the current is all, and I was a bit disoriented." "A bit? You were a quarter mile out! You were shark bait. A goner! What were you even thinking? Are you insane?" Flynn lost it as they motored quietly into the cove. His shouts echoed off the walls of the empty cove and Ronan went silent on the beach. "Hey! You aren't the boss of me! I'll have you know that I am a trained diver. I study this. This is what I do." "Trained? Hardly! If you were trained you would know not to go diving alone and perhaps maybe to study the waters ahead of time and know that there is a nine-knot current that runs outside the cove. Had I not been out fishing today and heard your cry for help you would have been gone in minutes!" Flynn cut the motor and raged at her. Keelin stood up on shaky legs and yelled at him. "I'll have you know that I am a professional!" "A professional pain in the ass!" They were nose to nose in the rocking boat. Keelin's breath huffed out and her chest heaved. Flynn sighed and laid his forehead against hers, surprising her.

At twenty-three, I’m left with a decision. The outcome could be life or death. Trent hit me once, and I cried. Then he hit me again. And again. After a while, I got used to it, as I slept on the floor beside his bed, night after night. Everyone told me to leave him, but I can't. He won't let me. The moment I wanted to give up on myself and any form of hope, Kemper—a tall, sexy Marine just home from Afghanistan walked into my bar. With one look in his eyes, I saw pain that mirrored my own. At first, I thought maybe he would be my prince charming, riding in to save me, but all it took was one tragedy for me to remember…fairy tales don’t exist in real life. *The content in this book discusses domestic violence and is suitable for readers over 18*

“That’s twice in one day I’ve had to save you,” Kemper says, his soft voice soothing my nerves as he presses a cool compress against my forehead. His other hand is cupped around my cheek. No one has ever cared enough to save me. Kemper’s face is inches from mine and I can smell the cool mint on his breath from the gum he’s been chewing.
“I guess so,” I mutter, falling a little deeper into his gaze. His thumb runs down the length of my nose, and while most of me is feeling pain, that sensation still drives quivers through my body. “Does that hurt?” he asks. I shake my head, “Not too much,” I say, noticing a slight ache in my neck. His thumb moves over to my right cheekbone and he presses gently. “How about that?” All I feel is the warmth from his skin. I shake my head again. He does the same for my left cheekbone. This time I wince. It hurts. I clench my eyes and I hear him yell to someone to grab ice. “Is this the first time he’s hit you?” Kemper’s brows are bowed toward his nose while his thumb continues to trace small circles around my cheek. I’d rather lean into his hand than respond. In truth, I just don’t want to answer him, but he’s still staring at me, waiting for a response. I look down, away from his gaze. The ache in my chest, mixed with feeling like a weak woman, makes me want to cry, but I won’t cry in front of all these people. His finger curls under my chin and he tilts my face back up to look at him. His eyes are kind and caring, yet pained at the same time. The light is hitting them at the perfect angle, giving them the slightest shimmer in the center of each pupil. Then there are his lips—I can’t stop looking at those either. They’re full and capable. They look like they have the ability to kiss in a way I’ve definitely never been kissed. I want to touch his lips, but I belong to Trent—the asshole that just hit me.

I was broken before I met Sebastian Pryor, but he decimated me. I swept the ashes of myself into a pile that I kept safe for thirteen years. Believe me it wasn’t pretty, oh but people thought we were perfect. I hate myself most days. I hate that I feel for him as much as I loathe who I’ve become with him. This story is hard to hear. You know what the worst part is? You’ll see part of you in me. You’ll hate that. You won’t tell anyone. My story is about cracks. A description or telling of how cracks in a marriage, a life, a personality, a heart and a mind begin and continue for years without anyone knowing. You don't always see what causes the fissure, but you feel it. Can you remember who you were before all of this started, before your life became a jumble of deceit, longing and regret? This book isn’t for anyone who needs a happily ever after. This book isn’t for anyone who needs a fun time out from their life. This book isn’t for anyone, but me. This is my story. I won’t apologize for it.Amazon PB | AmazonUS | AmazonUK | AmazonCA | AmazonAU | Kobo ════════════════════════════════════════════════ [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHtwMmZGlNo]════════════════════════════════════════════════ ════════════════════════════════════════════════ R.L. “Are you sleeping?”
My eyes cracked open. I was still lying in the bed of grass. I am glad my dream was a true account of what happened the night before. I sat up and smiled as Mitch was standing over me with a grocery bag of food he picked up from the market. He was looking at me with such intent and determination. We were headed to the local art museum downtown but stopped by the adjacent park to have some lunch. I looked at my cell phone, I must have fell asleep for about five minutes. A good dream, nonetheless. It’ll happen again, I know it.
He emptied the contents of the bag onto the a bath towel we grabbed from his apartment and turned his gaze to me before even opening the container of hummus and bottle of water.
“I have something I have to tell you.”
I held my breath and waited… “

~~However, he didn’t make her wait long. With the tongs, he pulled the steaks from the grill, placing them on the paper plate. Once he had them all stacked in a neat pile, he closed the lid to the grill, finally turning to face her, the steaks a barrier between them. She could feel the lump of desperation in her throat as she waited for his words to strike her, knowing she deserved whatever was spewed at her in his anger.
He stared into her eyes for just a moment before glancing down at the steaks in his hands. “Grilling steaks to me is relaxing,” he said. “First, I make sure I have the perfect cuts of meat from the butcher. Then I marinate them in a sauce that I created, not some off-the-shelf brand, but a savory concoction of my own design of just the right spices and sauces. I then sit them on the grill, which I have heated to the perfect temperature for what I desire, and watch, timing just when to flip them and then, at just the right moment, I pull them off the grill, so that they don’t cook too long, losing their flavor. I know how I want them to taste and just how long to leave them over the flame to make sure they are exactly as I’ve designed.
“In a way, the master/slave relationship is the same for me. I watch for just the right person, making sure she’s ready for the flame that must come in order to test her endurance for a life of servitude. I then marinate her in the training of being a submissive, of learning how to serve me in just the right way, so that we are both satisfied with the outcome. Then, I put her in the flame, knowing just how much heat to bring up to make her the perfect woman for me, the perfect submissive. I know just how long to leave her over the flame so that she doesn’t burn out. She trusts me to know just how long to leave her over the heat in order to produce the perfect submissive.
“However, every once in a while, the butcher gives me an imperfect piece of meat. I don’t realize it at first, sometimes, so I go through the process, marinating it, setting the grill to the right temperature, cooking it to perfection. Yet, when I cut into it, it’s tough and the flavor isn’t what was expected. It’s not the butcher’s fault nor is it mine. The steak is just bad. There’s nothing to do then except throw it away and start over with another steak.” He looked into her eyes as he walked over to the trash bin and dumped the steaks inside. He then turned his back on her and walked away.~~

No one had ever looked at me like that. Especially not the hottest man I’d ever seen. He had the lean, tan muscles of a world class athlete, thick black hair, huge hands marbled by big veins. Before he picked up his camera to shoot, he looked at me with eyes that could have set me on fire. Nothing else mattered; he was all I wanted. But when Daniel Baldessari called me “undateable" in order to get a reaction for the perfect fashion shot, I knew I was really in trouble. And after that first shoot, things started getting even stranger. Who was the “mystery client” that wanted to hire me for an exclusive contract and was sending me gorgeous flowers and boxes of sexy silk clothing and stilettos so that I’d say yes? Why did Daniel Baldessari’s beautiful cousin keep showing up at his house? And what was the dark secret from his past that threatened to tear us apart before I could find out if this maddening man even wanted me? I knew I had to find out. Excerpt
Chapter 1: Gaze
When I met Daniel Baldessari, I didn't know what real romantic love was. But I didn’t really care. All I cared about was how he looked at me. No one had ever looked at me that way. Especially not the hottest man I’d ever laid eyes on. Like a hunter about to pounce on his prey and lick her to death. “Twyla,” he growled, his voice deep and rich like dark honey. “Unusual.” “Daniel Baldessari,” I said back, surprising myself with the breathiness of my voice. I usually wasn’t a flirt. But the way he looked at me…I could feel my body lotion melting on my skin. I swallowed hard and my legs trembled like a deer’s in the crazy high sandals he’d had me wear. I’d come to Daniel’s studio in his home in the hills above the city. An Italian villa with balustrades and columns, walls overgrown with bougainvillea and morning glory vines. Large plate glass windows overlooked the city that was sparkling after a very unusual and much-needed Los Angeles rain. I walked down a path lined with long, pointed cypress trees, up the marble steps to the front door. A dark-haired woman in a pencil skirt and sky-high heels met me and ushered me inside. Daniel Baldessari was leaning against the wall wearing a white collared shirt open at the neck and jeans that clung to his ass and thighs and threatened to tear at the knee. Those eyes were watching me where I stood in the bright light of the room. So intense. Was he mad at me? Did I look all right? I felt my knees weaken and practically buckle under me. How was I going to model? “Twyla, are you feeling uncomfortable?” he asked. “Do you feel good in the clothes?” He was holding a large, black, expensive-looking camera and his sleeves were rolled up so I could see the veins in his arms and hands. Vein porn. “The dress is beautiful,” I said. “I love everything.” I sounded like a twelve-year old. “Then why do you look so tense?” He wasn’t smiling. I stared down at the shiny white floor that matched the flawless walls. Then I made myself look back up at him. “This is my first time,” I blurted. “Really?” He put down his camera and came over to me. He was much taller than I was, even in the high heels. The body of a world-class athlete. I realized I was holding my breath. “Where are you from?” he asked. He was close enough that I could smell the clean, foresty scent of his thick, black curls. “Ohio.” “That’s very exotic.” “I know, right?” I tried to joke back. He still didn’t smile. “Well, Twyla from Ohio, it’s nice to be your first.” I didn’t think I was imagining the implication. What could I say to that? I pressed my thighs together and the thong dug into me, not in a bad way. He went on, “But this is the big city and I need you to nail this. You got this job without a go-see. No one gets that opportunity. And I’m not sure if you realize that every minute we waste is costing the client money.” If I hadn’t been aware, I was then. God, I wanted to please him. It was instinctual, powerful. And it wasn’t just about pleasing the client. I need to get the money to send to Jack. “Now, just relax.” Right. “Pretend you’re alone, with your boyfriend, doing something you love.” I blushed again; I could feel it travelling from my cheeks down my throat to the tops of my breasts. If I weren’t careful, my nipples would light up. “What?” He sounded really impatient now. “No boyfriend,” I said. There was Cooper but he wasn’t like Daniel Baldessari. Compared to Daniel, Cooper was a boy in the presence of a man. “That’s impossible,” Daniel said. “A young woman like you.” I felt myself melt a little. Was he flirting? Then he paused, held up his camera and pointed it at me like a weapon. “Unless. Is there something undateable about you?” My mouth dropped open and adrenaline shot through my body. “What did you just say?” But Daniel Baldessari was busy snapping photos of my animated expression, my adrenalized body. “That!” he said. “That’s what I want.” The manipulative piece of… And that was how it began.
